Brazilian
Jiu Jitsu for Rape Prevention
24% (1 in 4) of Colorado women and 6% (1 in
17) Colorado men have experienced a completed or attempted sexual
assault in their lifetime. This equates to over 11,000 women and
men each year experiencing a sexual assault in Colorado.

What does a girl do when she has a larger and stronger man laying
on top of her? Brazilian Jiu Jitsu actually addresses these positions
which makes it ideal and a must have for self defense against rape.
How does BJJ Benefit
Women against Rape?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is not based on strikes and
kicks as are most other self-defense courses for women. Strikes
and kicks offer very little chance for success against an assailant
who is most likely going to be bigger, stronger and capable of
hitting back. Furthermore, they are useless on the ground which
is where the attacker will usually carry out his assault.

How does BJJ accomplish
this
Jiu-Jitsu, which means "gentle
art", emphasizes the use of technique and leverage over strength
and power. You will not have to rely on size,
strength, or speed in order to excel. In our kids and adult self
defense program they will learn how to subdue their opponent, giving
them an opportunity to get away and get safe. The idea is not to
try to
fight back but to be able to remain safe and create an opportunity
to escape.
When is the best
time to start training?
Any age is perfect as it is never too late to learn self defense against someone
stronger than you. Our classes are fun, safe, and the students have utmost
respect for each other when training with the opposite sex. Training as a kid
is also an ideal time to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu because they don't have
that awkward
teenage stage where
they might feel uncomfortable when training with the opposite sex,
plus by the time they have reach high school they will be a skilled Jiu Jitsu
fighter.
Early exposure to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is truly a great gift to your child.
